The Coronavirus Spread and Education

As the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to spread across the globe and in India, it has impacted all section of the society. From business to temples, everything is shut. The education sector is no different from others. Education is the measuring rod of any progressive society and a country like India cannot afford to see the learning at pause. The alarm bells are sounding in the education sector. UGC has already declared that there would be no classes at campuses across India till May 17, 2020. Also, the next session will start in September only. Similarly, the government has directed schools to remain closed till further notice. At the beginning of February 2020, only schools in China and a few other affected countries were closed down due to the transmission but now it is a harsh reality for most of the countries. School and university closures impact not only students, teachers, and families, but have far-reaching economic and societal consequences like student loans.

Across the world, universities are on break. Many universities in countries like the USA, Germany, Italy, etc. have shut their operations. They have suspended their seminars, lectures, and tutorials for a few months. This causes problems for students who need to discuss their ideas with professors. With nobody to advise, education suffers, and when education suffers society suffers.

Swarrnim’s initiatives to reduce the impact

Swarrnim Startup and Innovation University is known for leading by example. As soon as classes got suspended the university key people framed an extensive plan to keep students engaged and continue with their learning. The university explored the online teaching methods extensively. We called all faculty members and students to be online and scheduled regular sessions that were supposed to hold in the classroom. The other initiatives are:

1) Swarrnim Talk - The program invites eminent personalities to address the Swarrnim Community on the upcoming challenges in society and business at large. Swarrnim Talk has received an overwhelming response where entrepreneurs and visionary leaders of India come and share their thoughts.

2) E-Alumni meets - Swarrnim University has organized first ever e-alumni meet which was attended by more than 150 participants from various countries like the USA, Canada, UK, etc.

3) Parent-teacher meet - To continue with regular activities, Swarrnim Science College has invited parents and share the progress and plans of university and students.

4) E-Counselling - Swarrnim Institute of Health Science has made it Doctors available for online counseling. Swarnnim University is always been a front runner when it comes to social service. The university provided specialty care against the Covid-19 with telehealth, telemedicine, and ayurvedic guidance.

5) E-FDP & E-SDP - Swarrnim University is also organizing regular webinars under the e-faculty and student development program. Topics like blockchain technology, the reality of the corporate world, SWOT, etc. are covered under these initiatives.

In the end, we can say that the Covid-19 pandemic has disturbed the equilibrium of education but Swarrnim University is leaving no stone unturned to cope up with new challenges. The studies and learning are affected but not stopped at Swarrnim Startup and Innovation University.
