Swarrnim University - Covid19 & Beyond

After the USA and China, India has the third-largest higher education system in the world. We have more than 1000 universities, including both public and private which are approved by the UGC (University Grants Commission). Augmenting these universities India also has nearly 42,000 colleges affiliated to these universities. The total number of students enrolled in these colleges and universities are more than 37 million. This is not the end, India has more than 10000 technical and professional institutions (covered under All India Council of Technical Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India); nearly one million students are studying in these institutions around the country. Now just add medical, dental, nursing, and veterinary colleges, this will give you another 2000 plus institutions and a million students to add. India has a whopping 2 million faculty and staff as a workforce in these post-secondary educational institutions. The total human and intellectual capital involved in higher education is more than 40 million.

This is the size of higher education in India. Every block of every district in India has one or the other college or a training center. Considering the mammoth size and network, these institutions can play a vital role during the ongoing pandemic.
